Refaat Alareer

Refaat Alareer (1979–2023) was a Palestinian writer, poet, professor of English literature at the Islamic University of Gaza, and activist from Gaza City, where he taught poetry, Shakespeare, and creative writing.[1][2][6] He edited the story collection *Gaza Writes Back*, co-edited *Gaza Unsilenced*, and founded the mentorship program We Are Not Numbers to promote Palestinian storytelling as resistance.[1][2] Alareer was killed on December 6, 2023, in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City, along with family members.[1][2][4]
