Rajend Mesthrie

Rajend Mesthrie is an Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at the University of Cape Town, holding qualifications including B. Paed. (Durban-Westville), B.A. Hons (UNISA and UCT), M.A. (Texas), and PhD (UCT).[1] He served as National Research Foundation Research Chair in Language, Migration & Social Change, President of the International Congress of Linguists (ICL20) in Cape Town 2018, and is an Honorary life executive member of the Linguistics Society of Southern Africa.[1] Born as the fourth of five children in rural KwaZulu-Natal to descendants of indentured labourers from India, his research focuses on general linguistics, historical linguistics, and the history of English.[2][3]
