Peter Stanley

Peter Stanley is one of Australia's most distinguished military historians who specializes in the military-social experience of war in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.[1] He served as Principal Historian at the Australian War Memorial from 1980 to 2007, head of the Centre for Historical Research at the National Museum of Australia from 2007 to 2013, and Research Professor at the University of New South Wales from 2013 to 2023.[1][2] He has authored over 45 books primarily in Australian military history and won the Prime Minister's Prize for Australian History in 2011 for his book *Bad Characters: Sex, Crime, Mutiny, Murder and the Australian Imperial Force*.[2][3]
