Peter Sis
Peter Sís, born Petr Sís in Brno, Czechoslovakia in 1949, is a Czech-born American illustrator, author, and filmmaker renowned for his children's books. He studied film in Prague, won the Golden Bear at the 1980 Berlin Film Festival, and sought asylum in the United States in 1984 after being sent to Los Angeles for an Olympic film project. Sís has received numerous awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, multiple Caldecott Honors, and MacArthur Fellowship, with his illustrations appearing in major publications and his books earning several New York Times Best Illustrated honors.
