Peter N Stearns

Peter Nathaniel Stearns (born March 3, 1936) is an American historian and University Professor of History and Provost Emeritus at George Mason University, where he served as provost from 2000 to 2014.[1][2] He previously held positions at Carnegie Mellon University as chair of the History Department and dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and taught at Harvard, the University of Chicago, and Rutgers; he founded and edited the Journal of Social History.[1][3] Stearns has authored or edited over 135 books on modern social history, world history, the history of emotions, and related topics.[1][2][3]
