Peter Matthiessen
Peter Matthiessen (1927–2014) was an American novelist, naturalist, wilderness writer, and Zen teacher. He co-founded *The Paris Review* and is the only writer to have won the National Book Award in both fiction and nonfiction, while also becoming known for his environmental activism and work on Native American rights.
