Peter Benoit
Peter Benoit (1834-1901) was a Belgian composer and teacher who spearheaded the modern revival of Flemish music. He studied at the Brussels Conservatory, won the Prix de Rome in 1857, and founded the Flemish School of Music in Antwerp in 1867, directing it until his death. His notable works include the oratorios 'Lucifer' and 'De Schelde', operas like 'Het dorp in ’t gebergte', and choral compositions promoting Flemish nationalism.[1][2][3]
