Penny Simkin
Penny Simkin (May 31, 1938 – April 11, 2024) was an American physical therapist, childbirth educator, and author widely known as the 'Mother of the Doula Movement' for her pioneering work in labor support and childbirth education since 1968[6][7]. She co-founded DONA International (Doulas of North America) in 1992 and invented the squatting bar to improve delivery positions for mothers[5][7].
