Patricia Cornwell is an American crime writer best known for her best-selling Kay Scarpetta series, which began with Postmortem in 1990 while she worked at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond, Virginia.[1][3][4] The series, featuring medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, has sold over 120 million copies worldwide and earned her awards like the Sherlock Award and Gold Dagger.[1][4] She has also written non-fiction such as Portrait of a Killer identifying Jack the Ripper, biographies, cookbooks, and other series like Andy Brazil.[3][4][5]
