Nonie Sharp
Nonie Sharp was an Australian anthropologist and honorary research fellow in the Anthropology Program at La Trobe University who specialized in the cultures and histories of northern Australia's coastal indigenous peoples, particularly communities in the Torres Strait Islands.[1][2] After obtaining her PhD from La Trobe University in 1995, she taught sociology and anthropology, and was also a founder and editor of Arena magazine.[1][3] Her research interests encompassed indigenous resistance movements, Pacific island cultures, and people's relationships to the sea, as documented in her book Saltwater People: The Waves of Memory.[1][5]
