Niẓāmī Ganjavī

Niẓāmī Ganjavī (c. 1141–1209), formally named Elyās Yūsof Neẓāmī Ganjavī, was the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature who brought a colloquial and realistic style to the Persian epic[1][2]. He is best known for his Khamsa (Five Treasures), a set of five epic poems including the tragic love stories of Khosrow and Shirin and Layla and Majnun[1][9]. Niẓāmī spent his entire life in Ganja (now in Azerbaijan) and is celebrated across Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Tajikistan[1][2].
