Nirmala Banerjee
Nirmala Banerjee was a renowned Indian economist and academic who made significant contributions to economic research and policy. She was the mother of Nobel laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, who won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2019 for his experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. She passed away in Kolkata at the age of 87 following a head injury sustained in a fall.
