NeXT Computer Inc (later NeXT Computer, Inc. and NeXT Software, Inc.) was an American technology company founded in 1985 by Steve Jobs after his departure from Apple, specializing in high-end computer workstations for education and business markets. The company introduced the iconic black cube-shaped workstation in 1988 and later developed software that contributed to the evolution of dynamic web pages before being acquired by Apple in 1996. NeXT is often described as 'the most successful failure' in tech history due to its pivotal role in bringing Steve Jobs back to Apple and enabling the development of macOS.
