Natsume Soseki

Natsume Sōseki (born Kinnosuke Natsume) is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in modern Japanese history and is often called Japan's first modern novelist. His fiction explored themes of individualism, loneliness, and the conflict between traditional Japanese values and rapid Westernization during the Meiji era, with major works including 'I Am a Cat,' 'Botchan,' and 'Kokoro.' He died in 1916 at the age of 49, leaving behind an unfinished novel titled 'Light and Dark.'
