National Geographic Society (U. S.)
The National Geographic Society is an American nonprofit scientific and educational organization founded on January 13, 1888, in Washington, D.C., by 33 eminent explorers and scientists at the Cosmos Club to increase and diffuse geographic knowledge. It is renowned for sponsoring expeditions, producing high-standard maps, and publishing the monthly National Geographic Magazine since October 1888. As one of the world's largest scientific societies, it supports exploration, education, and storytelling to illuminate and protect the planet.
