Naomi Shihab Nye
Naomi Shihab Nye is a Palestinian American poet, children's author, essayist, novelist, and educator born to a Palestinian father and an American mother, raised in St. Louis, Jerusalem, and San Antonio.[1][2][4] She has published over 30 books, including poetry collections like *19 Varieties of Gazelle* and children's novels such as *Habibi* and *The Turtle of Oman*, often exploring themes of cultural exchange, heritage, and shared humanity.[3][5][6] A professor of creative writing at Texas State University, she has received numerous awards including Guggenheim and Lannan Fellowships, and served as Young People's Poet Laureate.[3][4][6]
