An Na, born in South Korea in 1972, immigrated to the United States as a child and grew up in San Diego, California. She earned a BA from Amherst College and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, worked briefly as a middle school teacher, and debuted with the award-winning young adult novel A Step from Heaven in 2001, which won the Michael L. Printz Award. She is recognized as a significant voice in Asian-American young adult literature and lives in Vermont.
