N Mayer
Milton Sanford Mayer was an American journalist and educator best known for his long-running column in The Progressive magazine and his influential book They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45, a study of ordinary Germans under the Third Reich. Born in Chicago to parents Morris Samuel Mayer and Louise Gerson, he worked as a reporter for the Associated Press, Chicago Evening Post, and Chicago American, and co-authored The Revolution in Education with Mortimer Adler.
