Mourning Dove

Mourning Dove, born Christine Quintasket and also known as Humishuma, was a Native American author and activist from the Okanogan (Syilx), Arrow Lakes (Sinixt), and Colville peoples. She is best known for *Cogewea, the Half-Blood* (1927), one of the first novels published by a Native American woman in the United States, and for *Coyote Stories* (1933).
