Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is an American attorney and author who served as First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 as the wife of Barack Obama, the 44th president. Born and raised in Chicago, she is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School who worked in corporate law, city government, and hospital administration before her role as First Lady. As First Lady, she advocated for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, and healthy eating, and has since authored four books including her bestselling memoir Becoming.
