Michael Joyce

Michael Joyce (born 1945) is an American writer, poet, critic, and pioneer of electronic and hypertext literature, best known for his seminal work *afternoon, a story* (1987), which was among the first serious hypertext fictions. He has authored seventeen books spanning novels, poetry, and essays on digital media, including *The War Outside Ireland* (1982) and recent works like *CAPRICORN, VENUS DESCENDANT* (2022). A Professor Emeritus at Vassar College, he co-founded its Media Studies program and lives near Poughkeepsie, New York.
