Michael Davitt

Michael Davitt (1846–1906) was an Irish republican activist and founder of the Irish National Land League, which led the Land War of 1879–82 to secure tenant rights against absentee landlords.[1][2][3] Imprisoned for treason felony in 1870 for arms trafficking with the Irish Republican Brotherhood, he later pioneered land reform cooperation between nationalist factions and served as an MP in the 1890s.[2][4] A radical journalist and supporter of labor movements, Home Rule, and anti-imperial causes, he co-founded the United Irish League and opposed the Boer War.[2][4][6]
