Mercedes Lackey
Mercedes Ritchie Lackey (born June 24, 1950) is a prolific American fantasy author best known for her bestselling Valdemar series set in the world of Velgarth, featuring interactions between humans and non-human protagonists across thousands of years. She has published over 140 novels and short stories, including fairy tale retellings exploring themes like ecology, social class, and gender roles, and was named the 38th Damon Knight Grand Master in 2021. Lackey, a former computer programmer and artist's model, is also a professional lyricist with five Pegasus Awards and lives in Oklahoma.
