May Gibbs

May Gibbs (1877–1969) was a pioneering Australian children's author, illustrator, and cartoonist, best known for creating the iconic 'Gumnut Babies' and the beloved book 'Snugglepot and Cuddlepie'. She was Australia's first full-time, professionally trained children's book author and illustrator, celebrated for her uniquely Australian vernacular and enduring contributions to children's literature. In 1955, she was appointed a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to Australian literature.
