Maxine Chernoff

Maxine Chernoff is an American poet, novelist, and translator born in Chicago in 1952, known for her innovative, post-modern approach that often blends prose and poetry. She is a professor and Chair of the Creative Writing program at San Francisco State University and co-edits the literary journal New American Writing with her husband Paul Hoover. Chernoff has published over a dozen books of poetry and six books of fiction, including the New York Times Notable Book Signs of Devotion, and has won awards such as the PEN USA Translation Prize and the Carl Sandburg Award.
