Maurya P. Horgan

Maurya P. Horgan is a biblical scholar specializing in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures, Qumran studies, and Old Testament interpretation, author of 'Pesharim: Qumran Interpretations of Biblical Books' published in 1979 by the Catholic Bible Association of America. She earned her B.A., M.A. from University College Dublin in Semitics and Classics, Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1972, and honorary degrees including D.Litt. from University College Dublin in 2009. Her career includes professorships at the University of Chicago Divinity School (1991-2000) and as Holmes Professor of Old Testament at Yale Divinity School since 2000, with prestigious awards such as the 2019 Burkitt Medal and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018.
