Maurice Crosland

Maurice Pierre Crosland (1931-2020) was a British historian of science specializing in French science during the Napoleonic era, particularly the history of chemistry. He held academic positions at the University of Leeds and the University of Kent at Canterbury, where he served as Professor of the History of Science and Director of the Unit for History, Philosophy and Social Relations of Science until 1994. Crosland was President of the British Society for the History of Science (1974-76) and authored influential monographs including 'Historical Studies in the Language of Chemistry' and 'Gay-Lussac, Scientist and Bourgeois.'
