Mason E. Hale

Mason E. Hale was a renowned American lichenologist and botanist at the Smithsonian Institution, internationally known for his extensive research on lichen taxonomy, secondary chemistry, and the incorporation of technology into taxonomic work. He published approximately two hundred articles and books on lichen biology and wrote educational materials to increase accessibility to lichens.
