Mary Ellen Matthews

Mary Ellen Matthews is a renowned entertainment portrait photographer based in New York City and East Hampton, New York, best known for her iconic celebrity portraits featured on Saturday Night Live since 1999. She joined SNL's staff in 1993 as an assistant and has been the show's chief photographer since taking over from Edie Baskin. In 2025, she published 'The Art of the SNL Portrait' with Abrams Books, featuring approximately 200 of her celebrity photographs with a foreword by Lorne Michaels.
