Martin J. Smith is an American author of five crime and suspense novels and five nonfiction books, including *Going to Trinidad: A Doctor, a Colorado Town, and Stories from an Unlikely Gender Crossroads*, a finalist for a 2022 Colorado Book Award. A veteran journalist, he has won over fifty newspaper and magazine writing awards and served as senior editor of the *Los Angeles Times Magazine* and *Orange Coast Magazine*. His novels have been short-listed for prestigious honors such as the Edgar, Anthony, and Barry Awards.[1][2][3]
