She earned her PhD from Cornell University in 1967, held prominent positions including Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford—the first woman and American in that role—and authored influential works such as the two-volume study on William of Ockham and Horrendous Evils and the Goodness of God. Adams was ordained in 1987 and became a committed advocate for LGBT inclusion in the church, shaped by her ministry during the AIDS crisis.
