Margaret A. Weitekamp is a historian, curator, and Chair of the Space History Department at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where she oversees a collection of over 5,000 artifacts related to the social and cultural history of spaceflight, including memorabilia, toys, and science fiction items.[1][2] She earned a BA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993 and MA and PhD in history from Cornell University in 2001, with her research focusing on women's history in space programs.[2][5] Her notable books include 'Right Stuff, Wrong Sex: America's First Women in Space Program' (Emme Award winner) and 'Space Craze: America’s Enduring Fascination with Real and Imagined Spaceflight' (2024 Gardner-Lasser Award winner).[1][2]
