Maeve Binchy
Maeve Binchy was an acclaimed Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, and columnist, born in Dalkey, Ireland, known for her sympathetic and humorous portrayals of small-town Irish life with surprise endings. She began her career as a teacher and journalist before publishing her debut novel *Light a Penny Candle* in 1982, going on to write sixteen novels including *Circle of Friends* and *Tara Road*, which sold over 40 million copies worldwide and were translated into 37 languages. She passed away in 2012 at age 72 after a brief illness, mourned as one of Ireland's best-loved writers.
