M. L. Wang
M. L. Wang is an author, martial artist, and self-described weird recluse born in Wisconsin in 1992, who decided to become a writer at age nine and holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Knox College (2015).[1][2][5] She works at a martial arts school in Madison, Wisconsin, and has written fantasy novels including the self-published The Sword of Kaigen (2019 SPFBO winner), the Theonite series, Blood Over Bright Haven, and The Volta Academy Chronicles (under Maya Lin Wang).[1][2][6][8] Her works often explore themes of gender, ethnicity, power, martial arts, history, and elemental magic, drawing from her studies in foreign languages and West African oral traditions.[2][4]
