Luis Alberto Urrea
Luis Alberto Urrea is a Mexican-American poet, novelist, and essayist born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and American mother, recognized as a prolific author of over 18 books exploring themes of love, loss, triumph, and border life, though he emphasizes building bridges over borders.[1][2][6] A 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist for his nonfiction *The Devil’s Highway*, he has won awards including the Lannan Literary Award, an Edgar Award, and an American Academy of Arts and Letters Fiction award, with works like *The House of Broken Angels* named a New York Times Notable Book.[1][4][6] He serves as a distinguished professor of creative writing at the University of Illinois-Chicago.[4]
