Lucia
Lucia Berlin (1936–2004) was an American short story writer whose work drew heavily from her nomadic life, marked by frequent moves due to her father's mining career, from Alaska to Chile, Texas, and beyond. She published several collections with small presses during her lifetime, gaining modest recognition, but achieved widespread fame posthumously in 2015 with *A Manual for Cleaning Women*, which became a bestseller. Known for her terse, autobiographical stories exploring self-discovery, addiction, and resilient female characters, she balanced writing with motherhood and teaching.
