Louis Nirenberg

Louis Nirenberg (1925–2020) was a Canadian-American mathematician renowned for his foundational contributions to the analysis of partial differential equations, including solving the Weyl problem in his 1949 doctoral thesis at NYU's Courant Institute, where he spent his entire career.[1][2] He collaborated extensively, publishing over 150 papers, advised 45 PhD students, and received prestigious awards like the Abel Prize in 2015 and the National Medal of Science in 1995.[1][3][4]
