LORD BEAVERBROOK

William Maxwell Aitken, 1st Baron Beaverbrook (1879-1964), was a Canadian-born British newspaper magnate, financier, and politician who built a vast media empire including the Daily Express and served in key government roles during both World Wars.[1][2][4] Born in Maple, Ontario, he grew up in Newcastle, New Brunswick, started in finance in Halifax, moved to Britain in 1910, became an MP, was knighted in 1911, and elevated to peerage in 1916 or 1917.[1][2][3] A close ally of Winston Churchill, he was Minister of Aircraft Production in WWII and Chancellor of the University of New Brunswick from 1947 to 1964.[1][4][7]
