Lionel Casson
Lionel Casson (1914-2009) was an American classicist and Professor of Classics at New York University from 1961 to 1979, renowned for his expertise in ancient maritime history. He authored over 20 books, including Ships and Seamanship in the Ancient World, Everyday Life in Ancient Rome, and Libraries in the Ancient World, and received the Archaeological Institute of America's Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement in 2005. Casson served in U.S. Naval Intelligence during World War II and contributed to educational initiatives in archaeology.
