Lewis E. Braverman

Lewis E. Braverman (1929–2019) was a renowned U.S. endocrinologist specializing in thyroid disorders, best known for discovering that humans convert thyroxine (T4) to triiodothyronine (T3) outside the thyroid gland, a finding published in 1970.[1][3] He was Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, mentored physicians for over 40 years, served as president of the American Thyroid Association, and edited major endocrine journals while authoring over 600 publications.[1][3][5] Braverman investigated outbreaks like thyrotoxicosis factitia from contaminated beef and contributed to understanding endocrine disruptors.[1]
