Lane Willey

Wiley Lane (1852-1885) was an American classical scholar and educator. Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he graduated summa cum laude from Howard University's preparatory department, earned a B.A. from Amherst College in 1879 (Phi Beta Kappa), and an M.A. from Howard in 1881. He taught at Howard University as instructor and principal of the Normal Department before becoming Professor of Greek Language and Literature from 1883 until his death in Washington, D.C.[1]
