Koichi Masubuchi

Koichi Masubuchi was a professor emeritus of ocean engineering at MIT and a leading expert in welding science and fabrication technology, whose work advanced the understanding of welding's role in marine and aerospace structures[1]. He received the Order of the Sacred Treasure from the Emperor of Japan in 1995 for his academic achievements and contributions to U.S.-Japan friendship[2]. Masubuchi passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 92 in Concord, Massachusetts[1].
