Joseph Marin

Joseph Marin is a historian specializing in the history of capitalism, counterfeiting, and policing in the nineteenth-century United States, particularly in Cincinnati, New Orleans, and along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. He earned his Ph.D. in History from Florida International University, where his dissertation examined how urban police departments pursued counterfeiters across municipal and geographical lines, drawing rural areas into the city's orbit. His research highlights the role of vigilantism in rural Deep South areas as a response to weak local policing against counterfeiting.
