José Hernández

José Hernández (1834–1886) was an Argentine journalist, poet, politician, and soldier best known as the author of the epic poem Martín Fierro, the pinnacle of gauchesque literature[1][2]. His birthday, November 10, is celebrated in Argentina as Tradition Day (Día de la Tradición) in honor of his contribution to national identity[1][7]. Hernández captured the struggles of the gaucho community and advocated for social justice through his writings and political career[4].
