Jon Krakauer

Jon Krakauer is an American writer and mountaineer known for his bestselling nonfiction books including Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, and Under the Banner of Heaven.[1][3] Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and raised in Corvallis, Oregon, he developed a passion for climbing early in life and graduated from Hampshire College in 1976 before working as a carpenter and salmon fisherman.[2][3][7] He survived the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, which inspired his account in Into Thin Air.[1][2]
