John Updike
John Updike (1932–2009) was an American novelist, short-story writer, poet, essayist, and critic known for his careful craftsmanship and vivid depictions of American middle-class life. He wrote more than twenty novels and many collections of stories, poetry, and criticism, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once.
