John Toland
John Willard Toland (1912–2004) was an acclaimed American historian and author best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book 'The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945' (1970), which detailed Japan's role in World War II based on extensive interviews with Japanese officials. He also authored the bestselling biography 'Adolf Hitler' (1976), drawing on unpublished documents and personal accounts to offer a nuanced portrait. Toland wrote nearly 20 books on wartime history, transitioning from failed playwright to distinguished nonfiction writer.
