John S. Quarterman

John S. Quarterman (born April 27, 1954) is an American author and longtime Internet participant who wrote classic books on networking before the Internet's commercialization, including 'The Matrix: Computer Networks and Conferencing Systems Worldwide' (1990) and 'The Global Internet' (1994).[1][2] He created the first comprehensive global maps and analyses of Internet networks, documenting topology, connectivity, and growth to aid engineers, policymakers, and organizations.[2] Inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2025, his work provided foundational understanding of the Internet's structure during its expansion.[2][3]
