John Messick

John Messick is a writer, educator, and storyteller based in Soldotna, Alaska. He earned his MFA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, has been awarded the 2013 AWP Intro Journals Prize in nonfiction and a 2022 Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Award, and teaches in the low-residency MFA program at Alaska Pacific University. His debut book, Compass Lines: Journeys Toward Home, explores personal narratives, with his work appearing in outlets like Rock & Sling, Tampa Review, and The Miami Herald.
