John I. Disley
John Ivor Disley CBE was a Welsh athlete and sports administrator best known for winning bronze in the 3000m steeplechase at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and co-founding the London Marathon in 1981 with Chris Brasher. Born in Corris, Wales, he studied Physical Education at Loughborough University and later contributed to orienteering and served as vice-chairman of the UK Sports Council. He was awarded a CBE for services to outdoor education and died in London at age 87.
